Nationally Ranked Old Dominion Shoots Past Men's Soccer, 5-1

Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion (7-1, 2-0 CAA) inundated Drexel with 12 shots on goal through 90 minutes of play and connected on five of them in a 5-1 victory over the Dragons (4-4, 0-2 CAA). Drexel's sophomore keeper Cory Robertson made a career-high 11 saves in the contest but also allowed four of the 10th-ranked Monarchs' goals.
Old Dominion went up 3-0 in the first half on a pair of goals by Ross Mackenzie and one by Edson Elcock. Dominick Balsamo put the Dragons on the board in the 25th minute off a ball launched into the offensive zone by Robertson, the goalie, to make it a 3-1 match. The tally was Balsamo's first of the season and 11th in his Drexel career.
The Monarchs outshot Drexel 22-8 in the contest, forcing Robertson to make five saves in the first period and another six in the second half before being relieved by transfer junior Derrec Mongan. Mongan posted another save for the Dragons and allowed the final goal of the match, when Zachary Kenney knocked in a rebound in the 80th minute.
Drexel earned five corner kicks to Old Dominion's four. Evan Newton made five saves to earn the win for Old Dominion. Balsamo led Drexel with four shots, three of them on goal.
The Dragons return home to take on James Madison on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
